ff-track excursion that ended her life prematurely. Instead, it was an elderly (80-something) woman who failed to yield right-of-way and tried to cross an intersection as I was traveling through it. I thought “#!*%@, I’m going to hit her” and then, the next thing I knew, it was all over with and the airbags had already receded. The airbags did their job and, at the time, I had nary a scratch or bruise (in fact, my sunglasses, which I was wearing at the time, weren’t even touched). For as low speed a collision as it was (~40mph) I happened to hit her directly on her driver’s rear wheel which, being a fairly strong part of the old Lincoln she was driving, sufficiently flattened Ruby’s nose. The elder woman was ticketed and the cops all agreed it was her fault. My lease is up in July and I was planning on buying her out since there really isn’t another car made right now with as much soul or character as she had. So I’m not sure what I’ll move into next – I really didn’t plan on having this decision to make.
